How Do You Create a Better Training Program? Change It!

November 6, 2009

changeI had a impromptu meeting today with a few colleagues. The discussion was about changing a program. Yes I mentioned that dreaded word CHANGE. Can you believe someone would want to change a program that individuals have been doing for four plus years. The nerve of some people. Well that person is me. Can you imagine an individual participating in a sport and not having his body physically evaluated? Can you imagine an individual participating in a sport and not having his technique evaluated? That was the discussion today, changing a teaching and training program to evaluate the individual physically and technically. Change happens, every day is a new adventure. As I read in Rick Pitinos book, Success Principle, if it is not broken, Break it. (by the way do not get the book, this is the only valuable bit of information. Plus I hate to put more money in his pockets. Sorry way off track.) I do agree with this statement you should always be looking for ways to improve yourself as well as your training methods. In the end you may come back to where you started, but at least now you know it is the right way.

I heard this from a psychologist a number of years ago and it has stuck with me;

If you always think what you always thought; You will always get what you always got

If you always get what you always got; You will always do what you always did

If you always do what you always did; You will always think what you always thought.
